This year will be 10 years since my affair with fitness started.
I had just started my own company that created outdoors adventure based experiences with young minds. I never thought I was unfit till I found myself struggling for air as we were close to the summit.
The same year, Contours Womens Gyms originally from Australia staring their first gym 2 streets from where I lived.
Like a typical Indian woman, I signed up just for 3 months thinking it might not work! Since then there has been no looking back, its been an amazing 10 years!
Few thoughts on the Indian woman and our bodies:
- We are NOT lean structured woman.
I remember thinking my bust size would change after I had lost 10 kgs. Well here is some news: we are curvy women and unlike the west carry it on our hips and bust. There might be some exceptions like the movie stars or models. But look around you right now and count how many fall in that category, how many tall lean women are your friends?
Lets embrace the curves.
- We cant change some parts of our bodies ONLY
I would like to have her arms
I would like to have her abs.
I would like to loose weight only on my midriff.
We have inherited our bodies and the genetic makeup cannot be altered ( NOT YET!!)
The only way is to work hard and stay motivated. Excepting this has made me happier when working out, keeping unreal expectations and disappointments away. I can look toner, but cant magically change the shape of my body. I might not look lean, but can kick ass at the group workout!
I can get better, I cant magically be someone else.
- We look good, we work harder
Like most women around the world, Indian women like to buy pretty things that make us look good. Unfortunately I find that we think gym-wear need not be invested in. In my experience clothes that show your bulges and tyres motivate you to work harder than hiding inside loose large men’s T shirts. Wearing clothes that uplift the mood and feel great on the skin can be the reason to kill procrastination and head to gym.
Invest in a pair that looks great while being functional, look good and find yourself working harder.
